HISTORY

Janssen Biotech, Inc., formerly Centocor Ortho Biotech Inc., was created in 2008 by bringing together two pioneering and well-established Johnson & Johnson organizations, Centocor, Inc. and Ortho Biotech Inc. Both companies had a long history of providing solutions that extend and improve human health. Our new common identity across the pharmaceutical sector communicates our passionate pursuit of science for the benefit of all patients and underscores the strength of our pharmaceutical business across geographies and therapeutic areas

Centocor was founded in 1979 and focused initially on the development of diagnostic assays using monoclonal antibody technology. In subsequent years, the company boldly ventured into the development of therapeutic drugs for a number of immune disorders. In 1999, Johnson & Johnson acquired Centocor and gained access to the company's monoclonal antibody technology, expertise and growth potential.

Johnson & Johnson established Ortho Biotech in 1990, making it the first biotechnology subsidiary of a major healthcare company. From the beginning, Ortho Biotech dedicated its resources and resourcefulness to providing products and services to help improve the lives of patients with cancer and with anemia due to multiple causes. In addition, the company has been recognized for its treatments for recurrent ovarian cancer, rejection of transplanted organs and other serious illnesses.

At Janssen Biotech we harness innovations in large-molecule and small-molecule compounds to create important new therapeutic options. Beyond innovative medicines, we are also committed to programs that ensure patients, caregivers, advocates and healthcare professionals have access to the latest treatment information and support services.
